Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are part of the typical ordinary photo when visiting Sydney. Vivid Sydney is a perfect opportunity to add a touch of originality to it: what if the Opera turns into a mix of purple, green and pink? What if you could spot a classical dancer on the tower of the Harbour Bridge?

I go to the Vivid festival almost every year, not only for the photo opportunities but also for the great atmosphere in the streets of the city. Although it marks the start of winter and I have been cold every time I went there, the festival attracts millions of people who follow the trails as soon as the night falls to watch the light shows, to interact with the art exhibitions, to spot some street artists or to wander in the market stalls.

Every year, my must-sees at Vivid Sydney are:

  • the Opera House (the best view, in my opinion, is from the West of Circular Quay)
  • the Museum of Contemporary Art (the best view, in my opinion, is from the East of Circular Quay)
  • the Customs House (my favourite in 2015!)
  • The Rocks area for the atmosphere and the fun to explore the smaller alleys.. and the stalls!

I would recommend allowing a full evening to enjoy the festival. Maybe it is because I did it on a weekend but the streets were always crowded, and it took a long time to go from one point to another.

The Vivid Festival is on for four weeks every year around the end of May/beginning of June.
