When we camp, it’s usually just the two of us or with friends – rarely with kids. So while I’ve included a few options that work well for families, the focus here is on fun and easy entertainment for adults. Because space is always limited when camping, we tend to favour games or activities that don’t take up much room but still keep everyone entertained.

Coup
Why we love it: One of the rare strategy games that works perfectly for two people but also scales up for a small group. It’s a mix of bluff and deduction that keeps everyone guessing. The rules take a bit of time to learn the first time, but once you get it, it’s addictive – and compact enough to pack on every trip.

Cockroach poker
Why we love it: Quick to explain, fast to play, and guaranteed laughs. It’s card-based, so there’s no bulky gear to bring. The fun comes from bluffing your way through rounds and reading others’ reactions – ideal for winding down after dinner with a drink around the campfire.

Petanque set
Why we love it: A must for any French camper! Petanque is part of our camping tradition, especially when travelling with friends. It’s not the lightest or smallest game, so we only bring it if we know there’s space to play. Great for lazy afternoons at the campsite.

Bluey camping book
Why we love it: Even though we usually travel without kids, this one deserves a mention. It’s a lovely book to share with little campers (or to gift to friends with kids). It captures the magic of camping – and bonus for us there’s a French character in it!
