Staying clean and fresh can be tricky when you’re camping, especially in remote spots with no facilities. Over the years, we’ve found a few compact, reliable items that make it much easier – and they don’t take up much space.

Rechargeable shower pump

Why we love it: It’s a game-changer when there are no showers around. We can easily set it up with a bucket of water for a quick rinse after swimming, hiking, or a long day on the road. It’s rechargeable by USB and surprisingly powerful for such a small device.

Our tip: Always close the charging port carefully after each use so no water gets in, and double-check it before putting the pump in the water.

Solar shower bag

Why we love it: It uses the sun to heat the water during the day – no need for power or gas. It’s simple, lightweight, and makes showers in the middle of nowhere feel a bit luxurious with no effort.

Our tip: Look for reinforced handles. We’ve tested a few models, but the handles didn’t hold and the pressure was poor, so we now just use the bag to store and heat water.

Foldable bucket

Why we love it: It’s one of those simple items that’s endlessly useful. We use it to hold water for our shower pump, washing dishes, or put out the fire. When empty, it folds completely flat, so it barely takes any space.

Our tip: Go for one with sturdy handles and a reinforced rim so it stands up on its own when full.

Quick-dry towel

Why we love it: Lightweight, compact, and quick-drying – perfect for camping or multi-day trips. Mine is large enough to provide a bit of privacy when needed outdoors, and soft enough with extra-thick microfiber material to be comfortable to use.

Our tip: Hang it up as soon as possible after use – it dries quickly in the sun and helps keep smells away.

Poncho towel

Why we love it: It makes it easy to get changed when there’s little privacy and lets you dry off without feeling cold.

Our tip: Choose one with a roomy cut – it’s easier to move around.
