Burgundy is a region of France that is famous for its picturesque countryside, rich history, and world-renowned wines. While popular cities like Dijon and Beaune are well worth a visit, there are many charming villages throughout the region that are also worth exploring. Here are 10 beautiful villages in Burgundy that were on my list when I prepared my trip.
While I didn’t have time to visit all of these villages in Burgundy during my trip, this list will help you with your research and planning. It is convenient to stay in Dijon and visit them as day trips. The list is ordered by distance from Dijon and the ones I visited myself have photos.
Saint Romain
Saint Romain is a picturesque village located in the heart of Burgundy’s wine country. Surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards, the village is famous for its world-renowned wine production. In addition to wine, Saint Romain is also known for the beautiful romanesque Church of Saint Romain that dates back to the 11th century. Visitors also love exploring the charming old town with its winding streets and traditional stone houses.
Distance: 25 km from Dijon, approximately 30 minutes by car.
Arnay-le-Duc
Arnay-le-Duc is a charming village that is known for its beautiful chateau and historic market. The market dates back to the 13th century and offers visitors the chance to sample some of the delicious local produce. The chateau itself is a highlight of the village and offers visitors the chance to step back in time and explore the fascinating history of the region.
Distance: 40 km from Dijon, approximately 40 minutes by car.
Châteauneuf-en-Auxois


Châteauneuf-en-Auxois is a picturesque village that is known for its stunning castle and panoramic views over the Burgundy countryside. Visitors can explore the charming streets and admire the half-timbered houses and historic buildings, including the church of Sainte-Croix and the 15th-century hospital.

Noyers-sur-Serein



Noyers-sur-Serein is a picturesque medieval village in Burgundy known for its well-preserved half-timbered houses and fortifications. Visitors can stroll along the charming streets and admire the architecture, including the 15th-century church and the 12th-century castle.

Semur-en-Auxois



Semur-en-Auxois is a medieval village that offers a glimpse into Burgundy’s rich history. The village is surrounded by ancient ramparts and is dominated by a beautiful church and a castle. Visitors can explore the narrow streets, which are lined with historic buildings, including a 16th-century town hall and a 15th-century hospital.

Autun
Autun is a beautiful village in Burgundy that has a rich history and stunning architecture. One of the main attractions of the town is the Cathedral Saint-Lazare, a lovely Romanesque church that dates back to the 12th century. Vézelay

Saulieu
